What is Gaia-X?

It’s a project initially started by France and Germany with the purpose of creating, together with other Member States, a secure, federate and digitally sovereign Cloud platform which would allow public and private organisations to share data and services in full compliance with European laws and regulations.

You can find more information about the project on the Gaia-X AISBL web site.

What are the benefits?

Privacy and trust

Developing a data driven economy requires a high level of trust from both the data suppliers and consumers. Gaia-X is providing the tools, processes and certifications required to ensure that data is not misused.

Compliance

Gaia-X is being built to deliver the Cloud platform and federation components that are needed to ensure compliance with European regulations including GDPR. Data spaces with specific rules can be created so that data will be processed by parties fully compliant with the necessary regulations.

Technological sovereignty

The foundation and components necessary to implement Gaia-X nodes are made a available as Open Source and will follow Open Standards so that any organisation, large or small, can implement their own federated Cloud nodes.
